When the mission is finding a cure for pediatric cancer, who would imagine a t-shirt could make a difference? It’s just a t-shirt right? Well we have raised millions of dollars in 16 years so we think it might be a little more than just a t-shirt.
In 2009 a fundraising event was created to help raise money for Children’s Mercy in Kansas City by three local celebrities Rob Riggle, Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis.
In 2011 our owner Joan Koechner Charbonneau volunteered and brought the idea of selling merchandise at the event to help raise additional money but also market the event by having celebrities wear the brand.
That first year, Big Slick merchandise sales totaled just $2,300 – and we were thrilled. Today, annual merchandise sales have grown to more than $200,000. What began with a few t-shirts has evolved into an integral part of the fundraising effort and a powerful extension of the brand.
Merchandise has helped expand the reach of Big Slick far beyond event weekend. Every piece helps carry the story and the cause further.
Branded merchandise can do more than represent a moment-it can help fuel a movement. That’s the Big Slick merch story.
At Perfect Promotions, we often say promotional products are more than just the product. Big Slick is proof.
And after 15 years of creating Big Slick merchandise, we’re proud to share a t-shirt can fund research, grow a movement, and change lives.
It is far more than “just a t-shirt.”
